Thread Vein Removal
Safely and effectively clearing broken capillaries, spider veins, and thread veins from the nose and cheeks. Based in Ranelagh, Dublin 6, our specialised clinic offers precise, advanced thermolysis to collapse visible vessels and restore an even, radiant complexion.
What Are Facial Red Veins?
Always Red, Always There. Not Anymore.
Thread veins, spider veins, broken capillaries—they go by many names, but they all have one thing in common: they have a habit of showing up exactly where you'd rather they didn't. The face, particularly the nose and cheeks, is one of the most common places for them to appear. Because the skin there is so visible, even a small cluster can affect how you feel about your skin.
Facial red veins aren't caused by one single thing; sun exposure, hormonal changes, genetics, certain skincare products, and environmental factors can all play a role. What's actually happening beneath the surface is that the tiny capillaries lose their ability to contract after they dilate. Instead of bouncing back to their normal size, they stay permanently widened—becoming highly visible through the skin as fine red lines or diffuse facial redness. They aren't actually broken, and they aren't a sign of danger, but they are incredibly easy to treat.
How is Facial Red Veins Removal Performed?
To safely and permanently clear these visible vessels, I utilise Advanced Electrolysis—an incredibly precise method that is perfectly suited to the sensitive nose and cheek areas.
During the procedure, a super-fine, sterile needle is used to direct a tiny, controlled current of heat along the surface of the vein. This instantly cauterizes the vessel wall, causing it to collapse and close. Once sealed, the trapped blood is naturally reabsorbed and cleared by your body's lymphatic system. Most clients describe the sensation as a mild, brief stinging—noticeable, but entirely tolerable and over in seconds.
How Much Does Facial Red Vein Removal Cost?
Before any advanced cosmetic procedures can take place, I always carry out a mandatory patch test and thorough skin assessment. This ensures your skin responds perfectly to the heat settings and guarantees a safe, successful outcome. The patch test is performed at least two weeks prior to your first official treatment session.
Consultation & Mandatory Patch Test: €30 (Fully redeemable against your first treatment)
Facial Red Vein Treatment Session (15 Mins): €85
Note: If you multiple types of blemishes, just book any treatment & let me know on your booking notes what you have. A Patch test required for Facial Red Vein & Dermatosis Papulosa Treatments. Please book patch test first.
Capillaries that won't go away, gone in minutes.
What Results Can You Expect?
Advanced Electrolysis (Thermolysis) delivers incredibly precise, instant results for facial red veins and thread veins. By targeting the collapsed capillary with a micro-current, we seal the vessel wall so the trapped blood can no longer pool. Your body then naturally breaks down and reabsorbs the deactivated tissue through its normal renewal cycle:
Immediate Post-Treatment: The targeted veins will often instantly blanch (fade away) or they can turn a deeper, darker pink during the session. The surrounding skin will feel flushed, and look slightly red. This completely calms down over the next 24 to 48 hours.
Days 1 to 3: A micro-crust or tiny, thread-like scratch scab may form directly over the track of the treated vessel. This is a vital sign that the skin tissue is successfully sealing and repairing underneath. It is crucial to let these micro-crusts flake off naturally to ensure a flawless, smooth finish.
Weeks 2 to 4: As the skin completely completes its natural cellular turnaround, the redness fades away entirely, revealing a clean, bright, and even-toned complexion underneath.

AFTER
Preparing for your Appointment & Aftercare
Pre-Treatment Pep
Patch Test Window: Ensure your mandatory patch test was completed at least 14 days prior to this appointment.
Arrive Bare-Skinned: The nose, cheeks, and face must be completely free of foundation, concealers, or heavy oils on the day of treatment.
No Stimulants: Avoid caffeine, alcohol, or intense exercise for 24 hours before your session, as these dilate blood vessels and can increase skin sensitivity.
Post-Treatment Aftercare
Keep It Cool: Avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and intense sweaty workouts for 48 hours to prevent the vessels from dilating back open
Hands Off: Do not pick, scratch, or rub at the tiny micro-crusts that form during the first 7 to 10 days—let them drop off naturally to prevent marks.
Skincare Fasting: Avoid harsh active ingredients (Retinol, Vitamin C, or exfoliating acids) on the treated area for 5 days. Use a gentle cleanser and a broad-spectrum SPF 50 daily.
Will My Red Veins Come Back?
However, because the underlying causes—like genetics, skin thinness, rosacea, or sun exposure—cannot be permanently altered by a localised treatment, your skin may develop entirely new dilated capillaries in the same area down the line. To protect your investment and maintain your clear skin results, we highly recommend using a daily broad-spectrum SPF 50 and minimising exposure to intense heat triggers.

Frequently Asked Thread Vein removal Questions

Results vary from person to person depending on the size and quantity of the veins. Some clients see their target capillaries completely clear in a single session, while others with more diffuse redness or extensive clusters around the nose may require two or three visits. I will always give you an honest, transparent assessment during your patch test in our Ranelagh clinic.

Once a capillary wall is successfully cauterized and collapsed, that specific vein is permanently closed and destroyed. However, treatment cannot stop your genetics or lifestyle from causing new capillaries to dilate in the surrounding skin in the future. Protecting your skin from daily UV exposure and extreme heat is the best way to prevent new ones from forming.

No. Laser treatments blast the general area with wide light energy, whereas our advanced thermolysis uses a microscopic probe to target the exact millimeter of the visible red line. This makes it incredibly precise, highly effective for intricate areas like the creases of the nose, and completely safe for the surrounding skin tissue.
